Ella Fitzgerald - Sings The Gershwin Songbook (1959)

En este genial recopilatorio, se recogen los temas más representativos del hito de 1959 "Ella Fitzgerald Sings the George and Ira Gershwin Songbook", creado por Lady Ella. En esta edición editada en 2007 por UCJ Records, aparecen los temas de aquel mítico álbum que con el paso del tiempo se han asentado como temas standar en el repertorio de Ella. Estos temas fueron grabados junto a la Nelson Riddle Orquesta, y son todos parte de la extensa obra de los hermanos Ira y George Gershwin; dos de los grandes compositores americanos del siglo XX, con musicales en su haber como "Porgy & Bess", "Lady be good", "Girl Crazy", "Funny face", "Oh kay!"... Riddle arregló 59 de las composiciones de Gershwin especialmente para Ella, incluyendo una introducción y un cierre instrumentales. Cuando se realizó este proyecto sólo estaba vivo Ira Gershwin, el cual participó en la creación de esta maravilla, aportando nuevas letras. Fue tal el agrado de Ira Gershwin que pronunció la mítica frase: "No me pareció buena ninguna de nuestras canciones hasta que no las grabó Ella". Ella tenía 41 años cuando grabó el álbum, estando en el máximo esplendor de su voz, y configurando este álbum como uno de los más importantes en su carrera.
